The Sierra de Aitana is the roof of the province of Alicante with its 1558 meters of altitude. In this route we are going to climb Aitana from the Font de Partegat, in Benifato.
To get there from Beniarda we must go up to Benifato, to scarce 5 minutes in car, to the entrance of this one there is a detour to right hand that allows to ascend by an asphalted track in not very good state to the Font de Partegat.
From the Font de Partegat we follow the PR-CV 21, going up the track to a first junction where we go straight on (the PR-CV 464 turns off to the left at the second junction where we continue to the right, along the PR-CV 21 towards the port of Tudons. We continue along a track that ends in a small hut next to a snow well, in the Font Vella. A few meters before the house is the beginning of the trail, marked with a post indicating the direction to the botanical path of the Passet de la Rabosa, on the right hand side of the track cut by a chain.
The path climbs through a block field, and continues towards the Font de Forata. Once there, we find a fountain with several pools that receives its name from the nearby Penya Forata. Near the fountain there is a snow well and a signpost of the PR-CV 20 and 21.
From the Font de Forata we follow the indication of the PR-CV 20 towards the Passet de la Rabosa. We climb this steep and steep stretch that ends in a narrow cleft in the rock that allows us to pass to the chasms of Partegat.
The trail descends, goes around the chasms and turns west to climb to the top. The highest points we can reach are the milestones next to the military base. The geodesic vertex is out of our reach, inside the military installations. From here we can enjoy a good view of the Serrella and Aixortà mountain ranges, the Bernia mountain range and the Ifach rock. To the south, the Puig Campana.
Although we can go down the same route, it is also advisable to follow the path of the mountain range, heading east after the area of the Partegat chasm. The trail runs along the upper part of the mountain range, surrounding Penya Alta and passing through the upper part of the runar dels Teixos until descending to the Tagarina pass, where we find the PR-CV 10 between Benifato and Sella. Turn left and go down the track without possibility of loss back to the Font de Partegat.
In Llar de Beniarda you will have more detailed information about the route and we will provide you with the track of the route for your GPS or cell phone.
